Ways to Learn at MAC
Ways to learn at MAC
Mineral Area College offers four different ways to learn, also known as course modalities. Know the differences so you can make the best choice for your learning style.
Traditional
In-Classroom Learning
- Courses meet at scheduled times with the instructor and students in the same location.
- May pivot to distance learning as needed (e.g.,inclement weather, pandemic).
- Students may need access to regular and reliable high-speed internet.
Online
Learn From Anywhere, At Any Time
- Students complete coursework online by following a defined course schedule and meeting specific deadlines.
- Courses do not have scheduled meeting times; however, select courses may require student attendance as needed to meet course objectives (e.g., proctored exams, field experience, interviews).
- Students must have access to regular and reliable high-speed internet.
Hybrid
Blended Learning
- Combines online and traditional course modalities.
- Up to 50% of the course will take place online, while the remaining instruction will take place at a scheduled time and location during which the class will meet as one group.
- Students must have access to regular and reliable high-speed internet.
Live Virtual
- Allows students to participate in-person or online at a defined time.
- The instructor will teach from one MAC location; students can attend at that location, at another designated location, or attend virtually using online conferencing software.
- Students attending in-person may pivot to distance learning as needed (e.g., inclement weather, pandemic).
- It is recommended that students who plan to attend via online conferencing software have access to regular and reliable high-speed internet.
