Paramedic

The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found in an ambulance. The Paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system.

  • The Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Technology

The Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic Technology degree is an extended four-semester program consisting of 44 credit hours of core curriculum and 23 credit hours of general education requirements. A Step-Out-and-License option is available to allow students who have completed the core curriculum to license while they continue to complete the general education requirements.

  • Paramedic Technology Certificate Program

The Paramedic Technology Certificate is an extended four-semester program consisting of 45 total program credit hours.

Mineral Area College EMS Education begins a paramedic cohort every year in the fall term. 

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to apply to take the National Registry Exam. Satisfactory achievement on the examination will qualify graduates for licensure as a Paramedic.

The Mineral Area College EMS Education Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Mineral Area College is an accredited EMT-Paramedic training entity and as so is authorized to offer the following courses under 19CSR30-40.331 which states in part: EMT-P training entities shall be certified to conduct initial EMT-P; EMT-P refresher to include remedial training and National Registry bridge programs; EMT-P continuing education; initial EMT-I programs; EMT-I refresher to include remedial training; EMT-I continuing education; initial EMT-B; EMT-B refresher to include remedial training and National Registry bridge programs; EMTB continuing education; initial first responder; first responder refresher; and emergency medical dispatcher (EMD) courses.

Missouri Bureau of EMS Training Entity Accreditation: 18705P.

The Emergency Medical Services Professions include four levels: Paramedic, Advanced EMT, EMT, and Emergency Medical Responder. CAAHEP accredits educational programs at the Paramedic and Advanced EMT levels. Programs at the EMT and Emergency Medical Responder levels may be included as exit points in CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic and Advanced EMT programs. “Stand-alone” EMT and Emergency Medical Responder programs may be reviewed by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
