Upward Bound can help!

If you are interested in going to college or want to learn more about college, Upward Bound can help! We are looking for students who want to go to college and need help preparing for college We know some students struggle in some areas, and we can help them succeed.

Upward Bound students receive:

  • Free ACT test and prep
  • Social and leadership skills
  • Tutoring and homework help
  • Cultural trips and experiences
  • College tours and information
  • Weekly and monthly meetings
  • One-on-one academic advising
  • New friendships and memories
  • Scholarship and financial aid information
  • 6-week summer program and end of summer trip
  • Career exploration and job shadowing opportunities
  • Community involvement and volunteer opportunities

What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is a college prep program for high school students. We serve students from 10 local high schools, Arcadia Valley, Bismarck, Central, Farmington, Fredericktown, Kingston, North County, Potosi, Valley, and West County. This program helps students prepare for success in high school and college. We provide activities and resources to sharpen skills and encourage achievement. Upward Bound works hard to provide students with many exciting opportunities to better their futures.

Who is Eligible?

The student must attend one of the ten schools we serve (listed above) in order to apply for our program. A student is eligible for this program if neither parent has received a 4-year degree OR if their family meets income guidelines. Students interested in applying can pick up an application in their counselor’s office, call the Upward Bound office at 573-518-2156, or apply online.

A Federally Funded Program

The Mineral Area College Upward Bound I program is a TRIO program funded with a five-year, $359, 828 per year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This represents 100% of the program cost. Mineral Area College provides 25% of indirect costs to support the program. The Mineral Area College Upward Bound II program is a TRIO program funded with a five-year, $312, 480 per year grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This represents 100% of the program cost. Mineral Area College provides a portion of indirect costs to support the program.

Upward Bound is one of five programs established by Congress to help low-income, first-generation students enter college and graduate. These programs are referred to as the TRIO programs.
